WHAT TO EXPECT (FAQs)Perhaps you are re-engaging with church or attending church for the very first time. Perhaps you're an active church member who just moved to the mountain. Whatever your situation, we want to help with some of your questions before you visit Colbert Height's First Baptist Church. Here's our attempt to guess what's on your mind and answer some of your questions. If we've missed something, let us know! You're probably not the only one with that question, so asking us will help us help you and future guests. What is your Sunday service and schedule like? Corporate worship services at FBCCH are celebrative and free. They are held on Sunday mornings at 10:15 a.m. in the (mulit-purpose) Worship Center. Our worship style is progressively blended, meaning traditional songs of our historic past are blended with contemporary songs of today. On occasion, video and dramatic skits are used to enhance the service in preparation for the proclamation of God's Word. Jonathan Moore, Associate Pastor for Music & Worship at FBCCH, leads our praise and worship time along with the FBCCH Worship Choir, Praise Team, and Praise Band. Our lead pastor, Seth Hood , brings a relevant and inspiring message that is the high point of our worship time together. A time of response follows the message. Prior to corporate worship, various, small group Bible studies meet at 9:00 a.m. What should I wear?You'll see people in everything from suits to shorts on Sundays. Our concern isn't what's on the outside, but what's on the inside. Come as you are. Jesus accepts us as we are when we come to Him. Why shouldn't we? Where do I park?We set aside reserved parking for guests in our parking lot adjacent to the worship center. Please follow guest parking sign directions as you enter our campus. Is there anything for my kids?Of course! We have Sunday options for newborns through high school seniors, including special times of worship designed just for the younger kids.How will I find a Small Group Bible study?On Sunday, enter the Worship Center adjacent to the designated guest parking. Guest Services is located in the Main Foyer of the Worship Center. A representative can show you a listing of Small Group Bible Studies. They will be happy to help you find the right group for you. Our goal is to get every guest and member associated with a small group., so believe us...we'll go out of our way to help you get connected!How will I find my way around?Again, the best way is to visit Guest Services located in the Main Foyer of the Welcome Center. Representatives would love to help with directions or even walk with you to your destination. In the church I grew up in, some people had "their" seats. What if I unknowingly sit in somebody's seat?Don't worry about it. Sit wherever you would like. Nobody has a claim on a seat. We are just glad that you are our guest.

How to Become A ChristianYou're not here by accident. God loves you. He wants you to have a personal relationship with Him through Jesus, His Son. There is just one thing that separates you from God. That one thing is sin.The Bible describes sin in many ways. Most simply, sin is our failure to measure up to God’s holiness and His righteous standards. We sin by things we do, choices we make, attitudes we show, and thoughts we entertain. We also sin when we fail to do right things. The Bible affirms our own experience – “there is none righteous, not even one.” No matter how good we try to be, none of us does right things all the time.People tend to divide themselves into groups - good people and bad people. But God says that every person who has ever lived is a sinner, and that any sin separates us from God. No matter how we might classify ourselves, this includes you and me. We are all sinners."For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God." Romans 3:23Many people are confused about the way to God. Some think they will be punished or rewarded according to how good they are. Some think they should make things right in their lives before they try to come to God. Others find it hard to understand how Jesus could love them when other people don't seem to. But I have great news for you! God DOES love you! More than you can ever imagine! And there's nothing you can do to make Him stop!Yes,oursins demand punishment - the punishment of death and separation from God. But, because of His great love, God sent His only Son Jesus to die for our sins."God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us." Romans 5:8For you to come to God you have to get rid of your sin problem. But, in our own strength, not one of us can do this! You can't make yourself right with God by being a better person. Only God can rescue us from our sins. He is willing to do this not because of anything you can offer Him, but JUST BECAUSE HE LOVES YOU!"He saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of His mercy." Titus 3:5It's God's grace that allows you to come to Him - not your efforts to "clean up your life" or work your way to Heaven. You can't earn it. It's a free gift."For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith - and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God - not by works, so that no one can boast." Ephesians 2:8-9For you to come to God, the penalty for your sin must be paid. God's gift to you is His son, Jesus, who paid the debt for you when He died on the Cross."For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Jesus Christ our Lord." Romans 6:23Jesus paid the price for your sin and mine by giving His life on a cross at a place called Calvary, just outside of the city walls of Jerusalem in ancient Israel. God brought Jesus back from the dead. He provided the way for you to have a personal relationship with Him through Jesus. When we realize how deeply our sin grieves the heart of God and how desperately we need a Savior, we are ready to receive God's offer of salvation. To admit we are sinners means turning away from our sin and selfishness and turning to follow Jesus. The Bible word for this is "repentance" - to change our thinking about how grievous sin is, so our thinking is in line with God's.All that's left for you to do is to accept the gift that Jesus is holding out for you right now."If you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved." Romans 10:9-10God says that if you believe in His son, Jesus, you can live forever with Him in glory."For God so loved the world that He gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish, but have eternal life." John 3:16Are you ready to accept the gift of eternal life that Jesus is offering you right now? Let's review what this commitment involves:I acknowledge I am a sinner in need of a Savior - this is to repent or turn away from sinI believe in my heart that God raised Jesus from the dead - this is to trust that Jesus paid the full penalty for my sinsI confess Jesus as my Lord and my God - this is to surrender control of my life to JesusI receive Jesus as my Savior forever - this is to accept that God has done for me and in me what He promisedIf it is your sincere desire to receive Jesus into your heart as your personal Lord and Savior, then talk to God from your heart:Here's a Suggested Prayer:"Lord Jesus, I know that I am a sinner and I do not deserve eternal life. MUSIC & WORSHIPRarely does anything stir our hearts and emotion like the gift of music. It is a universal language—uniting joyful hearts in song and uplifting praise. God made us all different intentionally. Why? Because He loves variety. He didn’t make us the same and therefore we should not be expected to love and adore Him in the same way. Music is a universal bridge that allows us to express our love and praise differently. Many forms of praise are mentioned in the Bible such as: singing, shouting, standing in honor, kneeling, dancing, making a joyful noise, testifying, playing musical instruments, and raising hands. Based on the personality God gave you, the best style of praise is the one that most authentically represents your love for God. Worship is a lifestyle, not a genre. We worship God in the way we live our lives. Our praise is simply a way to express our love and gratitude to Him.Psalm 150 states, "Let everything that has breath praise the Lord." At First Colbert Heights, we allow the opportunity for every person to use the gifts God has given them to corporately praise Him. We understand that our hearts are the focus and concern of God and our hearts reflect the true love we have for Him. Our music is praise to Him and Him alone. In Ephesians 5:9, Scripture tells us that we are to be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another in psalms and hymns, and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in our hearts to the Lord, giving thanks always for all things to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. The Music Ministry of FBCCH promotes the opportunity to corporately celebrate joy, hope and freedom that is available in Christ. Our desire is to simply praise Him for all that He has done. Ministry Programs FBCCH Worship Choir For ages ninth grade and up. No audition required, however, rehearsals must be attended faithfully. Currently the FBCCH Worship Choir rehearses Wednesday evenings from 7:05 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the choir room (Rehearsal times change periodically throughout the year).FBCCH Soloists & Praise TeamFor ages 16 and up. Auditions Required. A singer who auditions vocally must be an active member of the FBCCH Worship Choir and attends rehearsals faithfully (3 out of 4 per month) as well as all special rehearsals of the ministry. Currently, the FBCCH Praise Team rehearses on Wednesday evenings at 7:05 p.m. to 8:15 p.m.)Other Requirements & InformationThey must participate in all worship celebrations, services, or special performances in which the Worship Choir is participating or leading. They must faithfully attend all services and worship celebrations and be actively involved in the advancement and ministries of the local church. They must sacrfice their time in order to prepare for any worship celebration, service, or performance in which they will be leading (2 Samuel 24:24). No song will be ministered without the aproval of the Music Pastor of the church. It must be Biblically based and grounded in the truths of Scripture. It must be ministered to an audience of One, as an offering, and for that glory only.Music Ministry Audition ApplicationFBCCH Praise BandFor ages 16 and up. Auditions Required. A player who auditions instrumentally must obtain a certain degree of musical skill with at least some knowledge of musical notation (e.g. SATB, scores, chord charts, lead sheets, etc.) with the ability to sight read that notation. Currently the FBCCH Praise Band rehearses on Wednesday afternoons at 3:00 p.m. (seasonal) and on Sunday mornings at 8:30 a.m. in the Worship Center.Other Requirements & InformationThey must strive to attend all regular rehearsals as well as all special rehearsals of the ministry. They must strive to participate in all worship celebrations, services, or special performances in which they will be participating or leading. CHILDRENJesus ministered to children often. At FBCCH, we believe that the future of the church depends on strategic ministry to children today. Our investment in the lives of children begins with Jesus' own words found in Mark 10:14, "Let the children come to me. Don’t stop them! For the Kingdom of God belongs to those who are like these children." PRESCHOOLThe safety of children is top priority at FBCCH. We know that you, as a parent, are most interested in the care of your children while on campus. We realize that you place a great deal of confidence and trust in us to administer that care. That's why all workers in the FBCCH Preschool Department are trained, qualified volunteers for preschool ministry and every worker has completed authorization for background checks. FBCCH has in place policy and procedures that ensure the safety of your children while on campus. Below is a brief list of some of the procedures that we have in place:Upon your first visit to our preschool department, you will be given a "Parent Pack" which includes registration forms and information regarding these materials. As an added measure of security, you will notify us in writing through the registration process who is authorized to pick your child up from the department. Only those persons will be allowed to check your child in and out. At FBCCH, we use a label and voucher system to identify your children. Our workers are trained to identify crucial and important information relating to your child on such criteria as name, allergy, and/or custody alert status'. At FBCCH, we administer a lock down of all entry doorways in close proximity of the Preschool Department during all worship celebration times.Safety of children is top priority at FBCCH and we want you to rest assured knowing that your child is of upmost importance to us.

About ManMan is the special creation of God, made in His own image. He created them male and female as the crowning work of His creation. Through the temptation of Satan man transgressed the command of God, and fell from his original innocence whereby his posterity inherit a nature and an environment inclined toward sin. Therefore, as soon as they are capable of moral action, they become transgressors and are under condemnation. Only the grace of God can bring man into His holy fellowship and enable man to fulfill the creative purpose of God. In its broadest sense salvation includes regeneration, justification, sanctification, and glorification. There is no salvation apart from personal faith in Jesus Christ as Lord.A. Regeneration, or the new birth, is a work of God's grace whereby believers become new creatures in Christ Jesus. It is a change of heart wrought by the Holy Spirit through conviction of sin, to which the sinner responds in repentance toward God and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Repentance and faith are inseparable experiences of grace. Repentance is a genuine turning from sin toward God. Faith is the acceptance of Jesus Christ and commitment of the entire personality to Him as Lord and Saviour.B. Justification is God's gracious and full acquittal upon principles of His righteousness of all sinners who repent and believe in Christ. Justification brings the believer unto a relationship of peace and favor with God.C. Sanctification is the experience, beginning in regeneration, by which the believer is set apart to God's purposes, and is enabled to progress toward moral and spiritual maturity through the presence and power of the Holy Spirit dwelling in him. Growth in grace should continue throughout the regenerate person's life.D. Believers gather to worship. Believers connect with small groups and ministry teams for the purpose of of building lasting relationships aimed at keeping us focused on our responsiblity as worshippers, both individually and corporately. The result is the making of new disciples who in turn, genuinely worship God. STRATEGYOur strategy for reaching the lost word is based out of Acts 1:8. We are called to be his witness in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.
