Scripture Passages Concerning Musical Skill
- Psalm 33:3: "Sing to him a new song; play skillfully, and shout for joy." The Bible commands us to play with skill, treating music as an intentional craft, not an afterthought.
- 1 Chronicles 25:7: King David organized a massive group of Levites—288 musicians—and specifies that they and their relatives were all "trained in making music before the Lord" and were "accomplished musicians".
- 1 Chronicles 15:22: When the Ark of the Covenant was being moved, Chenaniah is specifically noted as being in charge of the music because he was "skillful at it".
- 1 Samuel 16:16 & 23: David was brought in to play the harp for King Saul because he was a "skillful musician," and his playing was so powerful it actually brought Saul relief from tormenting spirits.
